The Kono District Traffic Officer Assistant Superintendent of Police Yembeh Mansaray has said that undue political interference is one of the major factors responsible for the influx of unregistered and unlicensed motorbikes plying the street of Koidu and District as a whole.

The police traffic boss made the pronouncement in a stakeholders meeting with the Special Adviser to the president of the Republic of Sierra Leone attended by Presidential Adviser, Raymond Desuza.

They have been mapping out strategies for the safe use of the roads owing to the spate of road accidents reported across the country.

A.S.P Mansaray pointed out that in most of their operations to apprehend unregistered and unlicensed motor bikes “some stakeholders and politicians” do interrupt their operations with calls to free those apprehended.

He described the situation as very unfortunate and does not bode well for the effort in curtailing road accidents in the district and the country as a whole.

He however indicated their resolve and commitment in dealing with traffic violations and crimes that put citizens and residents at risks.

Other speakers further blamed the commercial motor bike riders and some of the passengers for over speeding and reckless riding which have claimed the lives of so any people.

They maintained that to address the spate of road accidents in the district radio talk shows on how to properly use the roads has become crucial.

They expressed dismay over the conspicuous absence of the representatives of the commercial motor bike riders at the meeting.

 Responding, the Special Adviser to the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Raymond Desuza George thanked those present for attending the meeting.

He pointed out that the meeting was a National drive to address the high rate of accidents across the country. He assured all that their concerns have been noted and will be conveyed to the President for solutions.
