With support from the Sierra Leone Government and partners in health the Kono Health Professionals Association attached to the Koidu Government Hospital has joined their counterpart the World over to observe the World Diabetics day in Koidu City, Kono District.
According to Community Health Officer (CHO), Amadu Gbande said it is but necessary for the health practitioners to embark on sensitizing communities about how diabetics’ causes harm to human life especially in Kono District and the Country at large. The causes of diabetics are obesity, drinking of excessive Alcohol, Palm wine, lack of exercise among others, he said.
Gbande further expressed that if families have history of diabetics they have to do regular checking because there is possibility for such to affect family members in the future.
He said such is not curable but can always put under control. He appeals to people to do daily check up at the nearest health centre or visit the Koidu Government Hospital to do free test which will qualify them for free treatment in order to control the sickness.
