Following the continuous misuse of drug substances by some of the youths and adults in Kono district and the country as a whole, some residents of Koidu city have called on the government to clamp down hardly on the various drug dealers especially “KUSH” in the district and beyond and to also restrict the flow or movement of harmful drug substances in the country.
The appeal came awake the continuous insane attitude displayed by the said youths and adults in public places after taking some of these harmful drug substances in the country.
John Kamara is a resident of Sukudu community in Tankoro chiefdom Kono district, in an interview with our correspondent he explained that the emergence of the Kush drug in in the country has created a lot of negative impacts on the young generation and the probability of losing intelligent potential leaders in the district and the country as a whole is very high.
“The youths are always considered as the future leaders but this will never be fulfilled when the youths are hell bent in taking harmful drug substances” he noted.
Mr Kamara insinuated that the society in five years’ time will be hostile and full of insane young people if appropriate measures are not put in place to forfend the free movement of some of these harmful drug substances in the country.
In a similar opinion, Fatmata James Sawaneh a business woman at the Gbense market in Koidu city explained that the negative impacts of Kush and the other harmful drug substances on their children is very grave , adding Kush is not only destroying their children but it is also destroying their hope and hope of the country. It’s very painful in my heart as a mother seeing the children of other mothers behaving like lunatics due to the addiction to Kush. Our hope as mothers in our children is destroying day after day as a result of the grave effects of Kush on them,” Madam Sawaneh lamented.
The aforementioned residents of Koidu city, however, pleaded with the government of Sierra Leone to enact laws that will prohibit the free movement and accessibility of Kush and other harmful drugs by young people in the district and the country as a whole. Anyone found wanting of selling any harmful drug substances must be seriously punished by the state laws they recommended.
