The Kono District Human Rights Committee (KDHRC) has on the 14th September, 2022 officially launched the ongoing voter registration sensitization campaign in Kono District.

The Sensitization campaign according to report is geared towards educating the public on the importance of the said Voter registration to ensure good governance and national development.

 The ceremony which attracted the presence of many stakeholders in Kono took place at the opera Cinema Hall at Main Kainkordu road in Koidu City.

The District human rights committee is an extension of the human rights commission of Sierra Leone that is charged with the primary mandate to educate sensitize and monitor all human rights activities in the District. Dauda Bangura is the District Human Rights committee secretary general.

When talking to our correspondent, he explained that, it is the primary motive of the committee to be part of any human rights activities in the district to ensure people are well informed or abreast with their rights and responsibilities, one of these rights according to him is to partake in any electioneer process as long  as one attains  the voting age enshrined in the constitution of Sierra Leone before they would be 2023 general elections in the country.

“The Voter ID card is not only important on the day of election, but there are many other important   benefits Sierra Leoneans will harvest after the Primary use of the voter ID Card should they go out now and get themselves registered”  Dauda Bangura stated.

 Mr. Bangura further intimated to our correspondent that the commission is not going to centralise the sensitization campaign in the city of Koidu but will also extend the sensitization in the 14 Chiefdoms in Kono to ensure that people see the need or importance of the voter ID cards.

He therefore called on all and sundry to get themselves registered before it is too late.

Making a statement, the Chairman Kono District Council Sahr Solomon Gbondo described the voter ID card as identity of Human Rights and security card to every Sierra Leonean who has attained the Voting age.
