Civil society activism is in coma in Kono District because of leadership void. The comment is attributed to Manager of the Network Movement for Justice and Development in Kono District Joseph Babar Ansumana when interviewed by our correspondent to make s statement about the country’s independence at sixty.
According to him, the civil society which has been so robust in the district has of recent been dormant on issues in the district for personal reasons and leadership conflict. He said as some members over the years have viewed the NMJD as a threat for taking lead in almost all of their activities.
It could be recalled that the Civil Society umbrella organization in the district has been challenging unfolding issues by the issuance of position papers and press releases.
He further appealed to his colleagues to forget about organizations and individual gains so that they can work together for the betterment of the municipality of Koidu and Kono District as a whole.
Talking on the topic Sierra Leone at sixty, Mr. Joseph Babar Ansumana thanked both the past and present governments for the little gains, noting that more needs to be done.
He intimated our correspondent that the anniversary is worth celebrating thinking about where the country has come from. He pleaded with everyone to be law abiding as the roadmap to sustainable development contains elements of peace, love and unity.
However, the said radio talk show program was boycotted by the representative of the All People’s Congress whilst Simeon Johnny represented the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party in Kono District
