The District corona virus Emergency Response Centre (DICOVERC) Kono in collaboration with the District Health Management Team (DHMT) and the security sector have paid a day working visit to the Kardu crossing point in Mafindor and Gbane Kandor Chiefdoms bordering Guinea. The one day working visit was to sensitize people living in that part of Kono District with regards the confirmed case of Margburg virus in neighboring Guinea.
In a meeting held at the Kardu crossing point with stakeholders and people that do cross the Kardu river to and from Guinea the District medical officer Kono, Dr. Gerald Younge maintained that they were at the Kardu crossing point to inform people about the confirm case of Margburg virus in neighboring Guinea.
He stressed that any critical or suspicious sickness must not be treated by traditional healers even though they are partners but to promptly report to the medical practitioners whom he said have the expertise to do the needful so that the District and the country will be safe from the virus.
The regent chief of Mafindor Chiefdom Kono District Musa Kamara whilst making a statement foremost thanked the team for the sensitization visit, nothing that he will do all in his powers to closely monitor people crossing the Kardu river to Guinea where the Margburg Virus has been confirmed.
Rev. Ambassador Sahr Samuel Sam is the DICOVERC coordinator Kono district.
He said their visit to the Kardu crossing point was prompted by the pronouncement of the World Health Organization with regards the confirmed case of Margburg Virus in neighboring Guinea. Rev Sam noted that the team visited the Kardu crossing point so that the security, surveillance and other mechanisms will be strengthened for the district and the country as a whole so that the virus will not be confirmed in the district and country as a whole.
Meanwhile the security personnel present at the said crossing point have assured all and sundry of a water tight security so that the said virus will not be confirmed in Kono district and the country as a whole. “We will make sure that the boarders are properly patrolled so that both medical and security implications are not of any concern” the security personnel maintained. Kardu crossing point is about forty eight (48) miles away from the headquarter town of Kono District Koidu City where people transact business for their daily sustenance.
