The Sierra Leone Association of the blind, Kono branch women’s leader, Christiana Lamin has revealed to this medium that, lack of food and the unavailability of teaching and learning materials have prompted the abrupt closure of the Koidu School for the Blind before the end of the third term of the 2020/2021 academic year.
Christiana Lamin made the statement when explaining the key challenges, they as persons living with disabilities in Kono District are faced with during the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the district, country and the world as a whole.
According to the Kono District women’s leader, Sierra Leone Association of the Blind, the non-availability of food, restriction on their movement, malfunctioning of the various disability skills training centres within Koidu, the non-sales of their products lack of training centres are posing serious challenges in their daily livelihood sustenance during the third wave of the deadly covid-19, a situation she described as pathetic.
She therefore appealed to all and sundry, especially the central government, line ministries and humanitarian organizations to come to their aid in addressing the highlighted challenges. While at the same time on behalf of her colleagues, she expressed profound gratitude to those who have been providing for them various support as persons living with disabilities in Kono District.
