Aggrieved residents of at least ten communities within Tankoro Chiefdom in the municipality of Koidu have threatened to demonstrate after a ten day ultimatum expires should the management of the Energy Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) fails to repair or install their transformer.
The proposed three days demonstration which is said to commence soonest, according to a notification letter written to the Local Unit Commander (LUC) Tankoro Police Divisional Headquarters will be staged in front of EDSA Kono office.
The would be demonstration is said to be staged as a result of the apparent electricity blackout throughout the ten communities for more than two months.
The affected communities are: Gbense Gumbu Street, Tejan Street, Ndomaina Street, Crowder Street, Segbema road, number 9 Junction area, Kambaima Street, NMDC Camp, Turay Street Kanje Street, Lower Post office road and John Kellie Street respectively.
The notification to demonstrate against EDSA Kono stated that the above communities have over one thousand households using meters for government electricity supply, there are also government offices including but not limited to the Tankoro Police Divisional headquarters and the housing and Country planning office, with shops, bars restaurants and hotels highly depending on the electricity supply.
As the aggrieved community people await a swift response and remedy within the shortest possible time to solve the unfortunate situation, the Secretary to the aggrieved residents, Tamba Saquee said, unlike the Kono District human rights committee Chairman, Isaiah Suluku , none of the stakeholders have responded.
Meanwhile residents of the 555 Spot Community in Koidu City is also currently faced with the electricity outage as unidentified unscrupulous individuals have reportedly damaged the transformer copper cables at the aforesaid community substations over the weekend.
