Residents of Koidu City on Friday 15th July, 2022 at around 9:50pm breathed a sigh of relief when electricity was available in the municipality of Koidu.
It could be recalled that the municipality of Koidu went without electricity for approximately two months without any justification from either EDSA or EGTC, a situation which many people have described as not only unfortunate but highly disrespectful.
The availability of electricity in the municipality of Koidu on the aforementioned date has created mixed feelings among many residents of Koidu City because electricity was only available after a two month outage of power on the eve of the arrival of the remains of the former Kono District chairperson of the ruling Sierra Leone people’s party late Madam Elizabeth Sia Tongu by the vice president of the Republic of Sierra Leone Dr. Juldeh Jalloh including other government functionaries.
The mixed feelings created according to those that spoke to this medium is that the availability of electricity which is a right and not a privileged should not be available only when heavy weight government functionaries are present in the municipality of Koidu but rather on regular basis because they as consumers are paying for such service through the purchase of meters and credits to use or enjoy the available electricity.
Those who spoke to this medium further hoped and prayed that the availability of electricity should not accompany the government functionaries for whose sake electricity was available after at least two months outage of electricity in the municipality of Koidu. Meanwhile, efforts by A-Z correspondent to contact officials of both EDSA and EGTC on the allegations by some residents of Koidu City with regard the availability of electricity after two months proved futile as all of those concern declined commenting on the said issue. However, up to press time electricity was still available in the municipality of Koidu.
