As they set to rollout a 10days mobile training for senior personnel of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), to equip them for the 24th June elections, Commandant of the Kofie Anan International Peacekeeping and training centre, Major General Richard Addo Gyane held a brief discussion with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr William Fayia Sellu.

IGP Sellu commended the Kofie Anan Centre and other partners for their support of the SLP especially for the June elections.

The SLP having received a lot of courses and training, he said was prepared.

He went on to state that the Police have been involved in every stage, from census, registration and now voter ID Cards collection.

The Chief Executive Officer informed of a constant reviewing of the national threats assessment chats with mapping out new threats areas.

He also informed me about the use of multiplier forces for effective and efficient security.

“We have done Training of Trainers (TOT) for all the 36 Divisions across the country, they are now going to serve as the frontline officers to roll out the training to the multiplier forces,” said IGP Sellu.

He made mention of a multi-sectoral approach plan that involves security and other stakeholders.

Soon he said the regulatory body will come up with guidelines for the elections and expressed optimism that they are on a sound footing.

Commandant of the Kofie Anan International Peacekeeping and Training Centre, Major General Richard Addo Gyane, explained that they are here as an observer team and were interested in the June 24 elections.

“We are very interested in the peace and security architecture of the subregion which is our mandate,” said Major General Gyane noting that they coordinate with ECOWAS, AU and UN, thus they are recruiting the mobile training team as partners in providing security for a better outcome of the June 24 elections.
