As part of its continuous effort to foster mutual understanding and cooperation with host communities, the community department led by Manager Alusine A. Sesay represented Leone Rock Metal Group (LRMG) at Simiria, Sambaia and Dansogoia chiefdoms in Tonkolili district, to make the payment of crop compensation as required by the company for any damage been caused as a result of the mining activities or construction of roads.
The payment was done at the different communities like Mabontor, Bafaya, and Maforika in Simiria chiefdom, Sangbaia in Sambaia chiefdom and Kegbema,Kemedugu and Gbomgomba in Dansogoia chiefdom these are the communities which were affected in the various chiefdoms under the leadership of the community manager Mr. Alusine Sesay; this exercise demonstrated the company’s continued commitment to honoring its legal and social obligations while fostering mutual respect and cooperation with host communities.
This provision ensures that affected communities directly benefit from mining operations conducted on their farm lands. The crop compensation payment serves as not only a legal obligation but also a reflection of the company’s corporate social responsibility to the people. For Simiria the sum of NLE 840,186 Sambaia chiefdom, the sum of NLE 37,318 was paid and for Dansogoia chiefdom, the sum of NLE 625,040 was paid, which is a sum total of NLE 1,502,544 directly paid to the people affected in these three chiefdoms respectively.
The event commenced with a brief statement by Mr. Sesay, Community Manager, Leone Rock Metal Group. He explained the purpose of the visit, emphasizing the company’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous collaboration with Simiria, Sambaia, and Dansogoia communities.
