The Head of Klin Koidu East End of the aforementioned municipality, Aruna S. Bendu has on behalf of his colleagues made commitment in transforming Koidu as one of the cleanest cities in the country. Mr. Bundu made the pronouncement during the official launching ceremony of Klin Koidu Door-to-Door waste collection service at the Musa Sessie Gbenda Hall – Bona Street, Koidu city.
According to him, the move by the Welt Hunger Hilfe and Koidu New Sembehun City Council to bring them onboard in waste collection effort in the municipality of Koidu is a step in the right direction. He promised to live up to the expectations of all and sundry in Koidu city.
Making a statement, the Chief Administrator of the Koidu New Sembehun City Council Francis Tiffa who also chaired the launching ceremony foremost thanked W.H.H for their intervention in making Koidu municipality clean by supporting different youth groups and S.M.E’s through the Koidu New Sembehun City Council with the Door-to-Door waste collection services. He pointed out that it is mandatory for seventy six (76) functions to be devolved to the twenty two (22) local councils across the country noting that only fifty six (56) are fully devolved. He cited waste management as one of the devolved functions.
As it is the responsibility of local councils to maintain waste management, the chief administrator Koidu New Sembehun City Council noted that it would have been very difficult for his council alone to control the waste of Koidu city but thanked WHH for intervening in the sector.
Mr. Tiffa maintained that the importance of the aforesaid project cannot be over emphasized as apart from capacitating the youths to collect waste they have been also able to contribute to the transformation of the lives of the youths in terms of having income generating capacity rather being reliant on handouts from politicians.
Thomas Okara is the head of project WHH; he catalogued integrated waste management into three (3) categories which can only be addressed with collective efforts. He noted that for the Door-to-Door Waste Collection Services to be successful in the municipality of Koidu a Memorandum of Understanding is about to be signed to affect healthy working relationship among the youth groups, SME’s and the Koidu New Sembehun City Council.
Mr. Okara urged the beneficiary youths to be hard working as the successful implementation of the project will in no doubt cushion their social and economic problems. He intimated the audience that in the not too distance future, waste management facilities are going to be handed over to members of the two groups and therefore urged them to properly handle and use the facilities judiciously.
He pointed out that although their intervention is going to end on the 31st, March, 2021 but noted that WHH has put plans afoot to bring onboard a recycling of waste management.
Meanwhile, the official launching of the Klin Koidu Door-to-Door waste collection services was done by his Worship Ambassador Komba Mathew Sam.
