Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella (KKY) has donated a 30-kilowatt solar photovoltaic (PV) power system with battery storage to the headquarters of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), aimed at ensuring an uninterrupted electricity supply at the party’s national secretariat.

Dr. Yumkella formally presented the solar power system to the SLPP National Chairman, Mr. Jimmy Batilo Songa, along with members of the party’s National Executive, at the SLPP headquarters in Freetown. The donation seeks to address persistent power supply challenges and enhance the operational efficiency of the party’s administrative offices.

Prior to the official presentation, Dr. Yumkella briefed the SLPP National Secretary General, Mr. Paran Umar Tarawally, on the initiative during a meeting held at the party headquarters.

Describing the donation as a modest but meaningful contribution, Dr. Yumkella said the initiative reflects a shared commitment to sustainability, efficiency, and responsible leadership. He emphasized that investing in clean and reliable energy not only reduces operational disruptions but also demonstrates practical climate-conscious action in line with Sierra Leone’s national development and environmental priorities.

The SLPP leadership welcomed the donation, describing it as timely and beneficial to the smooth functioning of the party’s administrative activities.

The 30KW solar photovoltaic system with battery storage is expected to provide a stable and reliable power supply at the SLPP headquarters, reduce dependence on the national electricity grid and fuel-powered generators, and promote the use of renewable energy within political and institutional spaces.
