Five-time winner of the Tennis Championship in Sierra Leone, Kelfala Samura, and the substantive Coach of Hill Station Tennis club, Amidu Dumbuya has called on the President of the Sierra Leone Tennis Association, Kelvin Kellie to step aside as their Elective Congress slated for early March 2023 draws near.

Speaking to CTN Sports Amidu Dumbuya and Kelfala Samura said the third-term issue should not be tolerated, adding that the said constitutional provisions cited by the president are from a document that has not been adopted by congress.

Dumbuya said: “I supported and brought Kelvin to where he is today but going back for the third term is unrealistic, so let him give way to someone who has a passion for Tennis, he told CTN Sports. Tennis is completely dead across the country and we need somebody who will muster the verve to take our beautiful game to where we want it”.

Samura a five-time tennis champion in Sierra Leone said Kellie has done nothing to promote and popularize the game across the country.

“Let him give way because he has completed his two-term in office,” he appealed. “I eat and feel Tennis so I know what is good for this game I cherish. I supported Kelvin all through his four years but it is time to go and we need change”, he pointed out.

Kelvin Kellie has refuted the allegations claiming his intention to contest was endorsed by congress, adding that the delegates believed in him that’s why they endorsed him.

He however said those who may wish to contest should go in with the new constitution.

Kelvin said: “The constitution is our Bible and I am working in line to promote Tennis across the country. Go to Makeni and see the renovation that is ongoing and we are planning to organize a national tournament”.

“Our young boys and girls are in training camp for the West Africa Junior finals, so is this not improvement”, he asked.

However, the Ministry of Sports has promised to meet with the two parties to chat about the way forward for the smooth running of the Sport in the Country.
