Members of the Kono Active Support Team (KAST) have officially donated fifty thousand Leones by cheque to the All People’s Congress (APC) National Secretariat during a ceremony held at the party’s headquarters on Old Railway Line in Freetown.

Presenting the cheque to a cross-section of the APC’s national executive members, KAST Chairman Melvin Comba Concuwa Alieu stated that as staunch members of the APC, they strongly believe that the party has earned maximum respect through its numerous contributions to the people of Kono District. He highlighted achievements such as the provision of tarmacked roads, electricity, and other developments. Alieu added that had the APC remained in governance, it would have delivered even more for Kono and the country as a whole.

According to Alieu, despite being in opposition for over six years and the impact of the global financial crisis, KAST found it appropriate to support the party financially ahead of its lower-level elections and upcoming convention. This contribution, he noted, would assist the APC in fulfilling its functions as it prepares to form government following the 2028 general elections.

Alieu further emphasized that during the administration of former President Ernest Bai Koroma, people from Kono held prominent positions. To maintain such representation, KAST members decided to contribute to the party from their own resources, despite the fact that many of them are not gainfully employed. He stated, “No one is ever too poor to give, nor too rich to receive.” The donation, he stressed, was made on behalf of KAST members and the general people of Kono District.

The chairman clarified that KAST’s primary objective is to strongly support the APC as a party, not to act as a reference group to create conflict within or outside the party. He emphasized that the party is bigger and stronger than any individual member. “The only person KAST members owe allegiance to is the party’s presidential candidate not even prospective party flag bearers,” he noted.

Alieu also expressed gratitude to APC national executives, including Deputy Chairman and Acting Chairman Ambassador Alhaji Foday Yansanneh, Secretary General Lansana Dumbuya Esq., Public Relations Officer Sidi Yaya Tunis, and Organizing Secretary Quao, for appreciating the donation and offering guidance to party members, supporters, and well-wishers to maintain proper conduct.

Looking ahead, KAST plans to launch a robust campaign to sensitize the public on nonviolence in election activities, ensuring a peaceful electoral process leading up to the 2028 elections.
