The Northwest Region Football in collaboration with Kambia District Football Association (KaDFA) concluded a successful meeting with Clubs, Managers and football stakeholders in Kambia on February 17th at the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society Hall in Kambia Two. It was principally meant to hear from the stakeholders what they think about the COVID 19 guidelines governing sporting events as the district and chiefdom tournaments gets underway.
The Chairman for the meeting was Mr. Musa KD Mahmoud who doubles as the chairman North West Region Football Association and also Vice Chairman Kambia District Football Association.
The chairman welcomed all stakeholders with special recognition of the Secretary of the Northwest Region Football Association, Mr. Mohamed S. Kamara commonly known as ‘Speaking’.
He said all foreign players recruited by clubs must submit an international transfer certificate in consonance with the rules of football governing Sierra Leone.
It was disclosed that Kambia District has 6 Division One Teams, 17 Division Two teams and four female teams.
The Division One Teams included: Kolenten Rovers; Great Scarcies, Cheltenham, Sunday Foundation, Katara and Bamoi FC.
The Second Division Teams were identified as: Rangers FC, Kambia Stars, Freetonians, Boundary strikers,Konta United and Obama FC
The Female Teams were also mentioned and recognized to include:-Patricia Humu FC; Queen Amos, Katara Ladies and Grap-Go- Fen- Am FC.
It was observed that two Divisions One Teams have qualified to play a Round Robin Tournament with three Teams from Port Loko for the National Play Offs.
The Team with the highest number of points will automatically qualify for the Sierra Leone Premier League.
It was announced that the Sierra Leone Football Association has agreed for the commencement of the Play Offs that had been suspended based on a court ruling.
The Committee has summoned all Regional Secretaries to Freetown to have consensus on: the commencement of the competition; prepare fixtures for the play Offs.
Other issues discussed had to do with the decision that had been reached previously in Port Loko for club to benefit from seed monies with the exclusion of Kolenten Rovers and Sunday Foundation.
It was stated that Kolenten Rovers and Sunday Foundation will be considered after the Play Offs.
The chairman pointed out that any team that qualifies for the Premier League would no longer be under the Northwest Region but under the auspices of the Premier League Board. This message received a round of applause from the audience.
The meeting also announced a date for the Female Regional Competition to start on Friday 19th February with Katara FC hosting Patricia Humu FC in Rokupr.
On Saturday 20th February, Division Two Football Competition is also commencing across the District. All teams are expected to receive their monies for necessary transfer.
The Officiating of matches also formed a talking point. The chairman cautioned that Referees must have distant contacts with the district Fas and MoU to be signed with regional referees to ensure fair play. All financial transactions were discussed to be done through the banks.
The chairman cleared the air in dispelling rumors that Katara Ladies have been granted undue advantage to host two matches. He refuted the allegations that the Region is not in charge of registration of teams. He advised all to ignore those claims.
To promote a fair play, Match Commissioners have been selected hoping to be trained on their roles and responsibilities before the commencement of the Regional Competitions.
He said a template has been created to support the Match Commissioners ranging from match preparations and tickets will be provided to all FAs. He promised the clubs footballs to support their preparation for the forthcoming competition.
The meeting was climaxed with questions from the audience on several concerns that require urgent clarification. All concerns were professionally addressed.
