On Thursday, March 6, 2025, the Court of Appeal, led by Justice John Bosco Alieu, along with Justices Alhaji Momoh Jah Steven and Tonia Barnett, adjourned the matter between Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray and the State. This follows the filing of an appeal by his lawyers against the judgment delivered by Justice Samuel Taylor.
During the proceedings, the appellant’s lawyer, Musa Pious Sesay, informed the judges that the surety for his client is currently ill and has left the jurisdiction. Sesay explained that the medical report for Madam Isha, the surety, was sent to him via WhatsApp and was stored on his phone.
State counsel, Yusuf Isaac Sesay, argued that the surety should be present in court to explain why the appellant is not in court and to clarify her status as a surety. He also suggested that if the surety is no longer able to stand as surety, she should pay the specified amount outlined in the bail bond.
Lead Judge John Bosco Alieu emphasised the need to review the file and understand the specifics of how the bail was granted. In light of this, the court issued a bench warrant for both Kamarainba and his surety.
The case is set to resume on April 10, 2025, for further proceedings.
