The Northeast region’s representation in the ongoing Orange FA Cup continues today with two crucial fixtures. Kabala City will host Kamboi Eagles at the Yogomaia Field in Kabala, while Northern Stars travel to face Old Edwardians at the SLFA Academy Field in Freetown.
Kabala City and Northern Stars, champions of Koinadugu and Bombali districts respectively, now carry the sole responsibility of defending the region’s pride. Their compatriots, Gbindi FC and Kholifa Stars, were eliminated from the competition yesterday after heavy defeats, leaving these two sides as the only remaining teams from the Northeast.
At Yogomaia Field, Kabala City will be seeking redemption against Kamboi Eagles, who defeated them 3-1 in their last meeting during the 2023 National Playoff. A victory today would secure their passage into the round of 16.
Meanwhile, Northern Stars face a stern test against the experienced Old Edwardians. Despite limited exposure at the top level, the Bombali champions have shown resilience and quality that could match the challenge posed by the School Boys.
With Gbindi FC and Kholifa Stars out of the tournament, Kabala City and Northern Stars now stand as the Northeast region’s last torch bearers in the Orange FA Cup. The hopes of an entire region rest on their shoulders.
