JOURNALISTS LAUDS INFORMATION MINISTER

The Ministry of information and communications has concluded its second annual ministerial retreat in Bo City. Journalists across the country applauded the Minister for his effective leadership style and for considering the role of the media in educating Citizens on Government service delivery to the people of Sierra Leone.

In his statement, President of Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) Ahmed Nasrala started by thanking the government of President Bio for creating a conducive atmosphere for journalists to perform their functions in a well professional manner through the repealing of the 1965 libel law which has sent plenty of Journalists behind bars in the past. He noted that the Government Subversion is helping the association to function well.

Various ministries and agencies participated in retreats; they shared their successes and challenges on the Medium Term National Development.

In his address, the Minister of information thanked CSO’s and Journalists for leaving their busy schedules to contribute throughout the process. He continues to express President Bio Commitment to promoting free media landscape in the country. The government will continue to support community radio stations and create a private business investment, wherein investors will invest in media; the government will also start to support media conferences.

The Minister of Information and Communications urged Colleague ministers and agencies present to be media-friendly and always share their achievements with a journalist, which will help enhance media contribution to good governance and Democracy.
