The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) marked a pivotal moment in its political journey during the 14th National Delegates Conference, as Jimmy Batilo Songa was elected the new National Chairman of the party.

Songa secured a decisive victory with 618 votes, defeating his closest contender, ING Kanneh, who received 396 votes. The outcome signals a significant shift in the SLPP’s leadership and sets the tone for a new chapter in the party’s future.

The conference, described by many as a “beautiful family gathering,” brought together party members from across Sierra Leone. It was a vibrant display of unity, inclusivity, and democratic spirit, with participants spanning all ages and backgrounds.

President Julius Maada Bio congratulated Songa on his victory and emphasized the importance of unity going forward. “Winners must be magnanimous and losers graceful,” he stated, encouraging respectful engagement and collaboration among party members.

Other key positions were also filled during the conference. Judith Kosseh was elected as Treasurer, while Shaka Sannoh narrowly won the position of Financial Secretary. The mood throughout the event was one of optimism and celebration, as delegates voiced their confidence in the newly elected leadership.

As Chairman, Jimmy Batilo Songa has been entrusted with the responsibility of steering the SLPP through a crucial period. He has been called upon to lead with wisdom, integrity, and a renewed vision for the party.

With an eye on national challenges and the upcoming electoral season, the SLPP under Songa’s leadership aims to strengthen its political strategy and reconnect with grassroots supporters. The overarching message from Freetown is clear: the SLPP is ready to embrace a new era, focused on unity, resilience, and national progress.
