The Principal of Jimmy Bagbo Secondary School in Bo District Mohamed Momoh Sarmu, has made a humble appeal to the President Bio led Government and other Development Partners to rehabilitate one of the best Boys Boarding School in the Southern Region.
The school being 100% boarding school is faced with multiple challenges according to the Principal of the School.
Mohamed Momoh Sarmu added that since 2000 to date, government has not supplied Jimmy Bagbo Secondary School with bed and mattresses.
He added that the Teachers’ Quarters are in a very dilapidated state coupled with the boarding homes for pupils.
The Principal continued that because of the enormous challenge of staff quarters, that has caused the school administration to rent houses within the township of Jimmy for some staff members to reside. He disclosed that even the enrollment of the school now stands at 723 pupils adding that, the administration stopped admission because of lack of accommodation for the pupils who wanted to be admitted to the school.
“When you visit Government Secondary School like Bo Government Secondary School (Bo School), Magburaka Government Secondary School and Government Secondary School Kenema (K. School), Government Secondary School Jimmy Bagbo is less developed. Thus, my very self and Pupils of the Government Secondary School in Jimmy Bagbo are calling on Government to pay some attention to our school”, he appealed.
Before the eleven years rebel war, Principal Mohamed Momoh Sarmu noted that the school used to compete amongst the best schools in the country in terms of academic excellence.
He added that the past glory of the school over the years has motivated many parents and guardians to send their children and wards to the school.
He however expressed his dismay that the unquestionable performance of the school over the years has dwindled due to the lack of adequate support.
He continued that during the war, the Government Secondary School Jimmy Bagbo like many other secondary schools in Sierra Leone, were vandalized by the rebels. But after the war, he acknowledged that government both past and present have rehabilitated many of the schools that were destroyed during the war across the country with the exception of Jimmy Secondary School. He therefore, concluded by calling on government, Development Partners, and Old Boys of the school to help rehabilitate the school.
