The Ambassador of Ireland to Sierra Leone, Aidan Fitzpatrick, has paid a farewell courtesy call on His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio, marking the end of his two-year diplomatic mission in the country on Tuesday 22nd July 2025 at State House.
During his farewell remarks, Ambassador Fitzpatrick expressed sincere appreciation to President Bio for the support extended to him during his tenure. He also took the opportunity to congratulate the President on his recent election as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Reflecting on his time in Sierra Leone, the ambassador commended the government’s strides in promoting women’s rights and praised the warmth and hospitality of the Sierra Leonean people.
“Sierra Leone has gained growing international recognition under your leadership,” Ambassador Fitzpatrick stated.
He also revealed that Ireland is actively exploring new investment opportunities in Sierra Leone, indicating an intention to deepen bilateral relations between the two nations.
In his response, President Julius Maada Bio thanked Ambassador Fitzpatrick on behalf of the Government and people of Sierra Leone for his service, dedication, and diplomatic support throughout his mission.
The President highlighted the recent opening of Sierra Leone’s new embassy in Ireland, describing it as a testament to the strong and enduring relationship between the two countries.
“Your leadership and diplomatic style will be missed. You were always present and supportive at diplomatic meetings,” President Bio noted. “I wish you success in your future endeavours.”
The farewell courtesy call marks a milestone in the diplomatic relationship between Ireland and Sierra Leone. As both nations continue to foster cooperation, this visit reaffirmed mutual commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties in the years ahead.
