The Irish Ambasador to Sierra Leone, Lesley Ní Bhriain, has called at the Presidential Lodge to bid farewell to His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio to announce the end of her tour of duty.

Madam Bhriain, who took up office as Irish Ambasador to Sierra Leone in September 2019, expressed gratitude to the President for making time for her to pay her respect and bid farewell to him.

She further stated that it had been quite difficult for her to take her leave but she would not do so without properly saying goodbye and talking about cooperation and partnerships with Sierra Leone, adding that she would want to assure the President of Ireland’s continued support to his government.

In his brief statement, President Julius Maada Bio said that he was saddened to learn about the leave of madam Bhriain but because of the pleasant memories, her stay actually seemed short.

The President stated that there had been very pleasant support from Ireland in-terms of cooperation, especially in core areas such as education and girls support.

He also thanked the ambassador and the government of Ireland for their support to his government, adding that he was hopeful that madam Bhriain’s successor would continue her good work.

“Thank you for staying with us. Your fond memories will forever stay in our hearts,” he concluded.
