Sergeant Sundu S.K., a police officer attached to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), has been remanded to the Male Correctional Centre for repeatedly failing to appear in court to testify in an ongoing drug trial involving the unlawful possession of Kush. The trial is being heard before Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah.
Sergeant Sundu, who serves as an investigative officer at TOCU headquarters, was expected to provide crucial testimony at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court. However, he failed to attend the court session on time, which has become a recurring issue in several cases under his responsibility, causing significant delays in the judicial process.
On this occasion, after missing the scheduled time for the hearing, Sergeant Sundu arrived at court later in an aggressive and disrespectful manner. His behavior angered the presiding magistrate, who had previously warned him about his repeated absenteeism.
The magistrate, visibly frustrated, stressed the importance of punctuality and commitment, particularly in cases related to drug offences, where swift justice is critical. The court regarded Sergeant Sundu’s actions as a deliberate obstruction of justice and immediately ordered his remand.
