International Friendly: Amidu Karim Grabs First Win Against Somalia

Sierra Leone Senior National teams Leone Stars under the mantle of their newly appointed coach Amidu Karim has picked up their first clean sheet win against Somalia in an International Friendly in Morocco.

The match marks the continue preparations of Leone Stars as they set to start their Africa World Cup campaign with first match against Ethiopia away from home.

Leone Stars played two international Friendlies both matches against Benin and Somila aided the Technical Team to test players ahead of the Africa World Cup qualifiers that will start in November.

In the match against Somila Cheltenham defender Curtis Davis 38 and HSV Hoek center- back Augustine Loof, 27, both made their debut for Sierra Leone in the win as they played full contest.

After settling for 1-1 draw against Benin, Coach Amidu Karim’s first outing with Leone Stars on Saturday, inform striker Mohamed Buya Turay opened the scoring for Sierra Leone from the penalty spot.

Coach Karim’s side was awarded a penalty after the Somalian keeper Billaal Njie brought down the Odense Boldklub striker in the box in the 24th minute.

Mohamed Buya Turay converted the spot Kick for his second Leone Stars goal in Morocco before completing his brace after scintillating pass from the right wing in the 58th minute.

The win against the visiting team was the first for the new Leone Stars Technical Team as they continue preparations for World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

Somalia team were not a threat to Sierra Leone but Leone Stars sets to face a much tougher test against Ethiopia and Egypt in November World Cup double header.

Sierra Leone in Group A against Ethiopia, powerhouse Egypt, Burkina Faso, Guinea- Bissau and Djibouti are the others in the race to the 2026 World Cup.
