Inmate Cry For Insufficient Food, Bully

Alie Kanu a convict on the 15th February 2023 told Justice Monfred Sesay that his fellow inmate always beats him up whenever he want to  collect sufficient food at the  prison kitchen.

The convict made this final statement while pleading guilty of the offense of  manslaughter at the High Court No.2 presided over by Justice Monfred Sesay.

Convict told the Court that they as prisoners get sufficient food when they use the black pan to collect food from the kitchen ‘ but my fellow inmate take my pan and beat me up and that insufficient food is given to us if we don’t take the black pan to the kitchen, he narrated.

The convict also informed the court that his fellow prisoner who beats him up were friends with the deceased and that he sponsored them inside of prison when he was alive, upon that he said these friends beat him up regularly at every given opportunity.

He told the Court that the deceased was a closed friend to him, adding that he has regretted his actions and asked the judge for mercy.

In that light Justice Monfred Sesay ordered the Prison officer to find out why fellow inmate always treat their fellow prisoners badly.  

The prosecution alleged that the convict Alie Kanu on 30th November 2021 in Freetown unlawfully  killed Ibrahim Sesay allas ‘Eto’. The State prosecutor A.Jalloh Esq have brief facts about the matter stating that the accused and the deceases were area mates.

The prosecution alleged that on the 30th November 2021 the deceased and his friends had an argument with the accused that led to a fight, in the process of fighting the accused hit the deceased with an object on his neck and chest.

Ibrahim Sesay (now deceased) was rushed to the hospital by relatives for treatment while the accused fled to Waterloo where he was later arrested and brought to the Ross Road Police Station for Investigation. Later, Ibrahim Sesay (now deceased) was pronounced dead on the same date.

He went on that the Medical report of the deceased showed that the deceased died from multiple blunt force injuries on the neck and chest.

 However, Defense Counsel R.S Bangura Esq made a plea mitigation for and on behalf of the accused for a minimal sentenced taking into consideration time spent and the inhumane bully meted out at the accused person.

Justice Monfred Sesay  found the accused person guilty of Manslaughter and sentenced him to five years imprisonment.
