IN THE FACE OF RISING COVID-19 DELTA VARIANT… FREETOWN MAY FACE LOCKDOWN, CURFEW

The government and stakeholders of national COVID 19 response architecture especially NaCOVERC are currently studying the situation in the country regarding the rising tide of confirmed cases and deaths.

Since the official confirmation that the country has confirmed cases of the delta variant of the virus, the official reaction is to possibly institute a partial lockdown and curfew in the capital that has become the epicenter. A-Z Newspaper has gleaned this information from the corridors of power that is however yet to be confirmed from authoritative sources.

A-Z newspaper has not been able to confirm when such lockdown and curfew declaration will be announced but inside government sources insists that the political decisions is high among options to deal with the escalating cases and death related to the new strain of the virus.

Members of the public in Freetown are bracing up for such a situation since the figures started attaining triple digits. It has been a telltale sign that emphasis on preventive measures in mask wearing and hand washing could lead to partial lock down and curfew.

We have gathered that the prospect of lockdown and curfew could be discarded if the situation improves in especially Freetown where the situation has attained alarming proportion.

In the meantime, the COVID 19 vaccine roll out compulsory mandate as a requirement to access public offices remain intact in the face of  hesitancy among some section of the public.
