Justice Monfred M.Sesay of the Freetown High court has on the 24th February, sentenced Foday Jusu Yambasu, to death by hanging after he was convicted for the killing of Sorie Kamara, on 26th November, 2018 in Freetown. The accused person was tried by a Judge and a 12-man jury.
In his summing judgment, the judge said all the evidences adduced against the convict were factual and accused admitted guilt in his confessional statement.
Before the judgment, he admonished everyone in the court room that any time they are angry they should exercise restraint.
Justice cited personal experience involving himself and his wife on many occasions when they had altercation but he had always tried to exercise self-control. He cautioned all who were present in the court room to do likewise, and never to allow their temper to boil over.
He said as a Judges it is the most difficult time to pronounce any sentence at the end of every trial. He said it is difficult to take that action, but you just have to abide to by dictate of law. He said the law is like a set trap and when you make mistake it will hold you accountable.
He thanked the defense counsel that he was good at his case and did very well for three years the matter has been in court.
After the Jurors had retired to their room and returned they pronounced the accused guilty on the said count.

The accused was represented by Lawyer Edwards K. Kanu and was prosecuted by State Prosecutor, Joseph A.K. Sesay.
