In Murder Trail: Police Tenders Death Certificate

Police Inspector Mathew Jibao Karim Vanjohun has on Wednesday 21st September 2022 during the preliminary investigation into the alleged murder of Memunatu Bangura tender the cause of her death certificate before magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba road court No1.

The accused persons Mai Dumbuya, Tamba Lebbie, Alfred Kargbo, Ishmael Samura and Peter Kalokoh are arraigned in court on two counts charges ranging from conspiracy and murder contrary to law.

According to the police, it was alleged that the accused persons on Sunday 5th May 2022, at Big Water, Main Peninsula Road in Goderich Freetown conspired together with other persons to murder Memunatu Bangura.

Fourth Prosecution witness (PW4) Inspector Vanjohun led in evidence by ASP Mansaray said he is  attached to Homicide syndicate CID HQ in Freetown.

He said recognized all the accused persons and complaint Mr Koroma and further recalled on 3 June 2022, adding that on that day whiles on duty, he received a transfer case and enquire file from Adonkia police station for the offence of murder against accused persons containing post mortem request of now deceased, certificate of cause of death, request for legal advice from law officer department and contemporaneous interview statements of all accused persons for continuation of the investigation.

He said duplicate case and enquire file was sent to the DPP for his perusal and legal advice.

The aforementioned documents were produced and tendered in court respectively to form part of the Prosecution’s case.

The witness added that on the 20 June, 2022, the fifth accused Peter Kalokoh was arrested by DPC 1324 Turay in respect of the alleged offence and was handed over for further investigation.

He said on the 28 June, 2022, an identification parade was conduct by Detective inspector Nyallo and that during the cause of that parade the fifth accused was identified by the son of now deceased person, which was reduce into report, adding that on that same date interview statement was obtained from the fifth accused.

According to the witness, on the 13 July 2022, the homicide office received advice from law officer department to charges the accused persons in respect of the alleged offences.

At this stage, Magistrate Ngegba adjourned the matter to the 26 September 2022 for further hearing whiles the accused persons were remanded in prison.
