Ahead of June 2023 parliamentary election, the nominated candidate for the All-People’s Congress (APC) political party in Kono District madam Isatu Felicia Wieh-Philip, has on Tuesday the 9th of May 202, withdrawn her candidature position and permanently resigned from all activities of APC in a letter to the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).

Isatu Felicia Wieh-Philip, nominated candidate for the All-People’s Congress (APC) political party said the Public Election Act of 2022, Section 62 (1A) gives the opportunity to a candidate to withdraw his or her nomination by personally making a written notice to the Returning Officer of Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone for it to be signed before the end of the nomination period. She emphasized that in reference to such legislation, she wrote to decline her nomination from the APC Party list of nominated parliamentary candidates with immediate effect.

She continued that she had recently forwarded a written resignation letter to the Deputy Regional Chairperson of the APC party in Kono on the 5th of May 2023, highlighting the reasons for her resignation as well backed up with a WhatsApp text message of acknowledgement of receipt. “The APC party still decided and nominated me without my consent,” Felicia Wieh-Philip stated.

She urged the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone to look into her withdrawal case with APC and make a good decision. Felicia Wieh-Philip believed that her candidature would be withdrawn in due course.
