The Council of Paramount Chiefs in Kono District has been described as an epitome of unity, peace and development in the District and the country as a whole.
The description was made by different speakers during the official presentation of the Paramount Chief Member of parliament elect in Kono District Paramount Chief Sahr Paul Ngbaba Saquee V of Tankoro Chiefdom Kono District to the people of Kono at a ceremony held at the Thomas Saquee Resource Centre Koakoyima in Koidu City, Kono District.
One of the contestants of the said election Paramount Chief Emmanuel Tamba Tarche Foyoh the chairman, of the Council of Paramount Chiefs Kono District who also chaired the presentation ceremony, maintained the day was a landmark and historic not only in Kono District but the country whole as the peaceful election of their colleague has dispelled the wide speared rumour that Kono is a divided District.
He expressed delight in chairing the presentation ceremony and for the such novelty to be recorded under his leadership as the chairman council of paramount chiefs in Kono District.
He pointed out that before the slated date for the election among themselves a lot of indifference was displayed but thanked God for the peaceful conduct of it.
According to him by law, the chiefdom councillors are those expected to elect or vote for the paramount Chief member of parliament but as paramount chiefs are elected by the same chiefdom councillors it is also right for them to decide for the chiefdom councillors to display unity peace and love in the district.
Whilst registering his unflinching support on behalf of his colleague, paramount chiefs to work with the paramount chief member of parliament advised all and sundry especially active politicians to avoid the idea of winning elections at all costs.
He also implored supporters of different contestants and political parties not to inherit hatred from their candidates for their fellow citizens of other parties to whom they do not belong.
Making a statement another contestant of the aforementioned election paramount chief Alhaji SCN Konobundoh of Kangama Gorama chiefdom Kono District foremost described the day as delightful not only for Tankoro Chiefdom but Kono District as a whole noting even their ancestors were happy for the high level of unity, peace and love displayed during the election of their brother as the paramount chief member of parliament in the district.
He intimated to the people of Kono District that during the presentation of the PCMP elect to the president and other government functionaries in Freetown many praises were lavished on them for a work well and urged their colleagues in the other districts to emulate what they called the Kono Model of electing the paramount Chief member of parliament.
P.C Konobundoh further pleaded with would-be aspirants in the 2023 general elections to emulate what they as custodians of the land have done as Kono District and the country are bigger than any aspirants or political parties.
Q.Meanwhile the representative of tribal heads Shiek Mohamed Lamin Fofanah, Chiefdom speaker Nimikoro Alhaji Abdulai Kumasy paramount Chief Sahr Edward Mbawa of Gbane Kandor Chiefdom and the representative of the Tankoro Chiefdom youth leader Morie Sandor made statements.
In his keynote address, the paramount chief member of parliament elects Kono District PC Sahr Paul Ngaba Saquee assured the people of Kono District that he will be firmed in debating issues in parliament for the development of Kono.
He said they will work with the government of the day to effect developments in the district.
PCMP elect Kono District underscored the development of president Bio including the ongoing university of science and technology project, the seventy-eight Kilo meter Koidu -Kamindor road construction project among many others of which he assured to support the government of the day in its developments aspirations.
He said he will advocate and negotiate for the developments of Kono District adding he will also bring parliament to the people and would always ensure that he consults with his colleagues.
The pouring of libation and tours across the fourteen chiefdoms in the district by the council of paramount chiefs are expected to form a high point of the presentation of the PCMP elect.
