Kroo Town Road Community on 17th December 2022 lefts President Julius Maada Bio’s trophy in collaboration with Ahmed Gento’s group company as they defeated Summer City by post-game penalties at the Parade grounds.
K.T.R went into the finals with an unbeaten record from the group stages winning two matches and a draw, and see off Murray Town in the knocking phase and set up with Mountain City in the semifinals, and then progressed to the final to face Summer City Community.
The match started with a pace mood from the two communities teams, with fast play from players being it finals, but both team’s defense were outstanding throughout the match, although Summer City enjoyed the bulk of the ball possession causing more attacking threats to Kroo Town Road Community defense, however, they held and relied more on the counter-attack threats going upfront in the opponent half.
Summer City assembly the stars studded side with the likes of Kei Kamara, playing his professional football for Columbus in America, and John T. Momoh, Samuel Beko, Prince Barrie, and host of Leone Stars Home Base squad, but the resilient unknown players from Kroo Town Road held took the match to post-game penalties and won the Trophy for the very first time in their history at the COFA inter Community.
Thousands of Football fans gathered to witness the finals at the parade grounds and there were side attractions from different local performers.
Musa Jalloh the head coach of Kroo Town Road Community said he feels happy to lift the trophy for the Community, though it was a difficult match but the players stood firm and composed to lift the trophy for their Community. He adds though they faced a difficult opponent that is having the bulk of the professional players, with this win we are committed to putting smiles on the people’s faces.
Daniel Conteh, the head coach of Summer City said it is difficult to lose finals, but in post-game penalties, the lucky side win, noting that they could have killed the match in the 90 minutes of play considering the number chances they had but failed the make use of any and that caused them the finals.
Summer City’s big signing Musa Noah Kamara was disallowed to play in the finals because according to the organizers he has issue to settle with the Football Association.
The Winners Kroo Town Road received a cash price of 50 million Leones whilst the runners Summer City went home with (30) million Leones. The competition organizers’ Director Mohamed Yapo Sillah said there will be an award night to award the players that won highest goals, best players, best goal Keeper, and many more other prices.
The Champions Trophy was handed over to Kroo Town Community by Ahmed Gento Kamara aspiring candidate for Freetown Mayorship.
