For diligent service and commitment in bolstering education in the country, the Institute of Management Accounting and Tourism (IMAT) College on Sunday 8th August, 2021, appointed the President of the Fullah Progressive Union (FPU), Alhaji Umaru Sanu Barrie, as ‘Education Champion’.

Speaking at the College’s compound in Freetown, Chief Executive Director of IMAT College Amadu Justice Bah, said that they are delighted to unveil their Education Champions in recognition of their tremendous support and contribution to building the capacity of Sierra Leoneans.

He continued that there is no way they can build a better Sierra Leone for their children without education.

He added that the college has enriched the lives of many students across the Mano River Union Sub-region.

He further stated that today, it is increasingly becoming a fact that the institution is aspiring to lead in distance and flexible study in West Africa.

He used the occasion to call on other humanitarian philanthropist to follow the footstep of Mr. Barrie, which according to him, is one of the Sierra Leoneans that is worth celebrating.

Receiving the certificate as Education Champion, the FPU president Alhaji Umaru Sanu Barrie noted that education has been at the heart of his activities even before being elected as the president of the union in December 2019, underscoring that he has personally doled out dozens of scholarships to the less privileged on many occasions.

“Since I became president of the FPU, I have changed the face of the union and have for the first time unveiled a headquarters where members meet and deliberate on the growth and development of the union,” he said.

He furthered by promising FPU’s unflinching support to the development of IMAT College, stating that education will be topnotch on their agenda.

He ended by divulging that very soon the union is going to launch a massive scholarship scheme aimed at helping to bolster education in the country.

IMATT College was formed in June, 2009 with the aim of providing quality education, and to help generate job oriented programmes that will help to shape the society in which we inhabit. Since its formation, the college has enriched the lives of many students across the Mano River Union Sub-region.
