Speaking as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and on behalf of the SLP, Mr. William Fayia Sellu volunteered to support the aged and elderly persons through an organization called, Dorwontony Organization For the Aged (DOFA). He made this voluntary statement during a meeting he had with a cross-section of the membership of DOFA on Monday November 29, 2022, at Police Headquarters, George Street, in Freetown.
DOFA is an organization founded by Mrs. Doreen Barrie, a Sierra Leonean citizen whose aim and objectives are to protect and cater for the aged and elderly persons.
While dilating on their purpose of visiting the IGP, Mrs. Barrie expressed her excitement over Mr. Sellu’s appointment as Police boss, stating that she knew his output and that she is confident that Mr. Sellu has what it takes to make the Police Force a better Force.
She continued that in as much as her organization protects and caters for the aged, she also saw the need to get them involved in social activities, such as, beauty contests, so as to keep them in sound memory of their youthful ages.
“On December 20 this year, we intend to launch a campaign in support of the aged and elderly persons and the title of the campaign is aging and victimization” Mrs. Barrie revealed.
With such disposition, Mrs. Barrie requested the IGP to join them in the campaign and to also serve as an ambassador to the organization in support of the aged people. She also mentioned that most aged people are victims of violence and intimidation. She therefore requested the IGP to provide the organization with a Police Officer who would serve as a liaison officer to provide the necessary police services for the aged when required.
Having earlier pledged his fullest support to the aged and elderly persons,. Mr. Sellu delegated responsibilities to his Executive Staff Officer, Mr. Ismail Keita (ACP), whom he said would serve as the liaison officer between the SLP and DOFA for a smooth collaboration in helping the organization achieve its goals.
