Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening law enforcement logistics across Sierra Leone this time focusing on one of the country’s most remote areas: Bonthe Island.

As part of efforts to improve police mobility and operational readiness, the Southern Regional Police Command has received two brand-new, fully registered Black Salencer motorbikes, each equipped with a protective helmet. The bikes were officially handed over to the Regional Police Commander South, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Brima Kanneh, and are designated for immediate deployment to Bonthe Island.

Beyond serving as transport tools, the motorbikes symbolize the IGP’s broader vision for a more inclusive and efficient policing system—ensuring no region is left behind. Given Bonthe Island’s challenging terrain, the addition of these bikes is expected to significantly improve police mobility and response times.

“This intervention reflects our leadership’s practical approach to policing—bringing resources closer to those who need them most,” AIG Kanneh said at the handover ceremony. “It is yet another example that the current leadership of the Sierra Leone Police is serious about operational effectiveness, especially in hard-to-reach communities.”

Under IGP Sellu’s administration, the Sierra Leone Police has placed increasing focus on logistical improvements and community-centered policing. Providing mobility tools to isolated regions forms a key part of the broader strategy to make the police force more proactive, visible, and responsive.

The Southern Regional Police Media Office expressed deep appreciation for the IGP’s continued support, noting that targeted investments like these not only boost officer morale but also build public trust in the force.

“As we receive these assets, we are reminded that transformation in policing is best driven by action, not words. The Inspector General continues to show that his vision for the force includes every corner of the country,” the media statement read.

The deployment of the motorbikes is expected to improve police presence and service delivery on Bonthe Island, contributing to safer communities and more effective law enforcement.

The Sierra Leone Police remains dedicated to serving with diligence and professionalism, and under IGP Sellu’s leadership, the journey toward operational excellence continues to advance.
