A team from the ICC Regional Office led by Patricia Kambarami, the ICC Development Manager Africa, and Justine Ligyalingi, the ICC Development Officer Africa, will arrive in Sierra Leone for a three-day visit to meet officials of Cricket Sierra Leone and those representing the Government.
The idea is to complete a full 360-degree organizational review of cricket in Sierra Leone, aiming at making recommendations that would see a significant change towards the growth of cricket in the country.
Focus group sessions will form the basis of the visit. Cricket Sierra Leone will be asked to formulate a series of meetings and focus groups which will cover the SLCA Board, SLCA Staff/administration, Sierra Leone Government – National Olympic Commit, Sports department, education department Cricket fans, and Sierra Leone national team players.
The outcome of this visit is a set of recommendations that will drive significant growth of cricket in Sierra Leone. The recommendations, as will be agreed upon between ICC and SLCA, will become accountable to both parties for implementation.
In May of 2022, the two ICC representatives made their first visit to the country to engage the Board of Cricket Sierra Leone on governance issues. The aim was to guide Board Members on dealing with ICC Growth Strategy, specifically increasing participation, which will help Sierra Leone become competitive in international tournaments; developing a grassroots cricket programme to bolster the game; engaging fans through digital platforms; attracting funds outside ICC income; and developing facilities to promote cricket.
