Sports Ambassador Charlie Bio has told Exclusive Sports that he needs financial support to travel to convince players whose parent attached to Sierra Leone of origin. He said he has been working with the country`s legend Mohamed Kallon and former team manager Christian Dauda in that direction.
He said: “My office has organized friendly matches for Leone Stars and I have played key role in convincing the likes Idris Kanu from St Peterbough (England), Augustus Kargbo from Crotone (Italy), Sullay Kai Kai from Blackpool (England), Osman Kakay from Queens Park Rangers (England) and with government support I will be able to convince more players to see reason to play for Sierra Leone;” he said.
The Congolese Football Association (FECOFA) recently appointed the French-Congolese Claude Makalele as ambassador as the former French international task of convincing some duals national to accept to wear the jersey of the “Leopards”.
Bio said financial support is key in achieving his goal. He said: “I can`t do this without finance, he added: “I have written letters to both the Ministry Of Sports and the National Sports Authority for support because I have identified three countries where he can get good players namely Italy, England and America;” he stressed.
When asked why focusing on football and leaving out other sporting disciplines; he replied: “I didn`t leaves them out but football has huge followers and we are five months away to the 2022 Afcon tournament. We need faces because we have been in the wilderness for twenty five years and to a successful tournament we need to identify good players”. He however called on the National Sports Authority to support in achieving his goal.
