A team led by Madam Tanneh Kumba Koroma from the Human Rights Commission of Kenema paid a familiarisation visit to the newly appointed Regional Commander East, AIG Francis Moses Tower, at his office at the Kenema Police Station.

According to Madam Koroma, the purpose of the meeting was to establish rapport and discuss ongoing and future collaborations between the Human Rights Commission and the police force in the Eastern Region.

In his welcoming address, AIG Tower acknowledged that the Human Rights Commission was not a new entity to him, having previously collaborated with them throughout his career in various capacities. He emphasised the critical role the Commission plays in ensuring the rights of citizens are upheld and that law enforcement operates within human rights standards.

AIG Tower noted that the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) aims to create a safe environment for everyone while respecting their rights. He highlighted his belief in the synergy between the police and human rights advocates and expressed his eagerness to work closely with the Commission to address any challenges the SLP may face in carrying out its duties.

Madam Tanneh Kumba Koroma expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome and reiterated the Commission’s commitment to fostering a collaborative relationship with the police. She stressed the need for ongoing dialogue and training to ensure law enforcement officers are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to uphold human rights in their daily operations.

As the meeting concluded, both AIG Tower and Madam Koroma expressed optimism about their future collaboration and recognised that a united front is essential for promoting peace, security, and human rights in the Eastern Region.

This familiarisation visit marks a positive step toward strengthening the relationship between the Human Rights Commission and the police in Kenema and beyond.
