A housewife, Monica Kumba Kaiwandi, made her first appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 on Tuesday, 26th August 2025, on a single count of Possession of a Prohibited Drug Without Lawful Authority, contrary to Section 8(c) of the National Drug Control Act 2008 (Act No. 10 of 2008).

When the charge was read to the accused, no plea was taken. Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh, requested a short adjournment to prepare and lead his witness.

In response, Defence Counsel J. A. Conteh applied for bail on behalf of the accused. He argued that his client is a resident of Freetown with credible sureties willing to stand in her recognizance. He relied on Section 23(4) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, assuring the court that the accused would not interfere with prosecution witnesses if granted bail.

However, Magistrate Fornah denied the bail application, citing the serious nature of the offence. He ordered that the accused be remanded at the Female Correctional Centre in Freetown.

The matter has been adjourned to 1st September 2025 for continuation of proceedings.
