Sunday, 30th November 2025 marked a historic moment in Kenema as Hon. Matthew Sahr Nyuma, Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone launched a strong, peaceful campaign against drug and substance abuse, particularly Kush, which serves as a menace destroying the lives and futures of young people.

With a message centered on hope, protection, and national responsibility, the campaign sought to raise awareness, educate communities, and urge stakeholders to join the fight to save Sierra Leone from the growing drug crisis.

Hon. Nyuma expressed appreciation to President Bio, the security sector, and community stakeholders for their continued efforts to eradicate drug abuse especially the spread of “Kush.” He reinforced the campaign’s core message with a powerful call: “Say No to Kush.”

Leader of Government Business reaffirmed commitment to national development, youth empowerment, and resisting anything that endangers the wellbeing of Sierra Leoneans. Hon. Chairman Moriba S. Koroma, popularly known as ‘Agbaooo’, also joined the campaign, echoing the same messages and urging all Sierra Leoneans to maintain peace and remain steadfast in the fight just as the President expects.

During the event, fate aligned when His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio passed by the gathering on his way to commission the Gandama Bridge in Kenema. His presence, though brief, was seen as a symbolic blessing and an implicit show of support for the mission to protect the nation’s youth.

Hon. Nyuma called on Communities and young people to unite to protect themselves from drug and substance abuse. Adding that through awareness, solidarity, and collective action, the fight against drugs can be won.
