As he continued to support people both in and outside Parliament, the Member of Parliament representing the people of constituency 013 in the Kenema District, Hon. Alusine Kanneh, Chairman for Internal Affairs Committee, who also doubles as the Deputy Chief Whip of the Sierra Leone Parliament, has dished out 1000 bags of rice, cooking oil and other food items as part of his Ramadan gifts  to some residents in Kenema and his constituency.

While presenting the items, the Deputy Chief Whip of Sierra Leone Parliament disclosed that he saw the need to give back to the constituency he hailed from as a gesture of appreciation, and owing to the fact of the current economic situation of the country.

“I have pledged to myself that anytime Allah helps me with a cent, I will give back to my community, particularly a time like this, to be living in a village” he stated.

He disclosed that each village in Golahun Tokia and Nomo Fama benefited from the donation of a 50kg bag of rice. He added that it was not the first time he had embarked on such  gesture as he used to do for the people of his constituency.

“I’m not doing this for a show-off, but for the blessings of God to help me on what I do in this world and the hereafter,” he affirmed.

He further encouraged other Sierra Leoneans to do likewise or even more for their people, with the belief that his gesture would be an inspiration to others to emulate.  “I want to inspire other people who have and not thinking of doing it, to see the need to do it for their people”, Hon. Kanneh noted.

Explaining about the distribution process of the donated items to this medium, the SLPP Constituency Chair Lady, Haja Haja Koroma said each of the towns benefited from 10 bags of rice and other cooking items. She continued that smaller villages received 5 bags of rice and emphasized that each of the villages in Golahun Tonkia received 10 bags of the donated rice.

She encouraged members of the constituency to embrace Hon. Alusine Kanneh and pray for him to continue to live with them. She re-echoed that the lawmaker has always thought about his people even when he was not elected as Member of Parliament.

She called on those who in one way and the other felt disgruntled about Hon. to embrace him and come together to push his agenda for the betterment of Constituency 013. She advised members of both Golahun Tonkia and Nomo Fama to preach peace especially when the election is getting closer.

Receiving the items, resident of Golahun Tokia, Hawa Kamara commended Hon. Kanneh for such a gesture.

She confessed that it was not the first time they have been receiving such help from the Honourable.

She intimated that Hon. Kanneh has been a very good and loving person who did not believe in what she described as a ‘nosing politician’ but someone who has always responded to the cry of his people especially, when they are in need.
“Hon. Kanneh has been helping us even before he became a politician. He is not doing this because he is a honorable.

He is just showing us that he is indeed a man of his words. We should be proud of him, because it is only a man like Hon. Kanneh that will think of his people in this difficult time. We are talking about over 1000 bags of rice and other cooking items, it is indeed a blessing to us especially constituency 013 to have a man to represent us as our MP”, she expressed.

Also expressing thanks and appreciation, one of the beneficiaries in Nomo Fama, Mohamed Kamara, praised Hon. Kanneh for thinking of them during this difficult time. He said anyone who feeds one person in the month of Ramadan, depicts as if he had fed over one thousand people and   there would be a reward for that person on   the Day of Judgment.

He added that it was a moment for him and his family to pray for the Lawmaker. He confessed that there was nothing to even eat on that day noting that, the intervention of the Deputy Chief Whip with such Ramadan gifts, was indeed a blessing for them.
