The Member of Parliament representing the people of Bonthe District during the debate last week on the motion of thanks to His Excellency the President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio address he so graciously delivered on the Occasion of the State Opening of the First Session of the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone, recorded and praised the president on his development initiatives of the Big Five Changers developmental projects for the State and his determination and willingness to foster national peace and cohesion.
Making his submission in the Chamber of Parliament, Hon. Moijueh said the only way, the Sierra Leone can achieve sustained prosperity is having peace and stability. He underscored reconciliation as prescribed by the President in his speech for the Opposition, APC to come to Parliament and serve the nation.
On the Feed Salone project, the dynamic MP said Sierra Leone needs to compliment the conventional subsistence farming with mechanized National Rice Production mechanism which will produce large scale rice and sell at low cost to its citizens. He therefore pleaded for the revitalization of the old agriculture centers with special reference to the 92,000 hectares of bolly land block at Kwame Bai Krim, Nongobabulum, Yawbekwo, Sogbeni and Bum Chiefdoms with its station at Toma Bum. Elucidating on the linkages in Agribusiness, he emphasized improvement of feeder roads enunciating the 82 km Korinbondo/ Mano Koriganya road. He entreated the House that agricultural courses in the universities to be redesigned to match with international best practices on agricultural cultivation.
On Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES), he advanced that unlike subsistence farming, mechanized model will actualize the over 12,000 green jobs for youths and women projected by Sierra Leone’s transformative agenda on food productivity.
The MP further submitted that the long standing gender disparity can now be cushioned with the YES roll out ensuring that at least 300,000 female youths benefit from 500,000 ceiling.
