Reports from our Northern Region Correspondent states that the Municipality of Makeni and its environs have been badly hit by storm and flooding after a heavy down pour of rain in the early hours of Tuesday 28th June 2022.
Our correspondent noted that this is the third time since April this year when Makeni and its immediate environs have been badly hit by storm and flooding thereby destroying shops, dwelling houses, school buildings and other property’s worth Millions of Leones.
The heavy rainfall and storm caused major destruction of valuable property’s and houses at strategic locations in the central business area of the municipality of Makeni, swampy areas Kabala highway, Lower John Street, Station road, Mabanta road. Magburaka road, Rogbaneh road, Masuba, Talent town, Makama to name but a few.
Meanwhile, neighbours of the affected communities according to report had sleepless night on that fateful Tuesday as they were busy relocating their family members and property’s to where they think they were safe. It could be recalled that prior to the reported storm and flooding which have destroyed properties worth Millions of Leones, the Makeni City Council, Ministry of Lands, Environment Protection Agency and other local authorities were seen strongly condemning the rampant construction of permanent structures in Swampy areas as well as along main streets and near drainages.
