Head Teacher of the Sierra Leone Church (SLC) on Rogbaneh Road, Makeni has commended the government of President Julius Maada Bio for supplying his school with learning materials uninterrupted since the launching of the Free Quality Education (FQE) in 2018.

Alieu Sesay has been the Head Teacher of class one to three since 2014 after the primary level was divided into two. He said the FQE has empowered the teachers to teach effectively as they collect the books from his office to teach and after the classes, the books are safely returned to the office where they are kept safely on shelves.

” I want to thank the government for putting our teachers on pin code although we need more teachers to be recruited for our school”, said Mr. Sesay, adding that his school is one of the most populated in the region.

In May, this year, storm removed the roof of a building in the compound which hosted little kids. According to the Head Teacher, he has reported the destruction to the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education and they are currently awaiting their response. He said the children have been combined with other pupils leading to overcrowding in some classes.

SLC Primary school being established in 1914 is one of the oldest schools in Bombali and always maintains higher number of girls than boys attending the school.

However, although the school is one of the schools benefitting from the Performance Based Financing (PBF) from the Ministry, much more interventions are needed for the school to be able to cope with the influx of pupils. Parents of the girl child are always encouraged not to hesitate taking their children to the school for enrollment.
