Hastings Murder: Police charged, four others dismissed

The Complaints Discipline and Internal Investigations Department (CDIID) of the Sierra Leone police (SLP) have charged to court the police officer that discharged bullets during an incursion into a private land at Hastings village.

Chief Superintendent of police Samuel Modupeh Williams who is the head of CDIID made the revelation to the media, confirming that the defaulter has been charged for murder for releasing fire arms that led to the killing of an unarmed civilian called Alpha Kargbo (ONE DADA).

The police officer Alimamy Foday Yillah was found wanting for discharging fire arms without any just cause.

Mr Williams said the other four accessories to the crime who are also OSD police officers have been dismissed from the force after thorough investigations by the CDIID.

According to the Chief Superintendent, the officers were found guilty of violating the police disciplinary code such as lack in civility, improper practice, committing act of blunder, wanting destruction of property, failing to comply with any standing order issued by the inspector general of police, neglect to the prejudice of good order and discipline. It should be noted that the incident occurred on the 15th April 2021 on an alleged disputed land at Hastings village.

In another development another police officer PC 10659 Abubakar Bangura attached at the OSD headquarters who was filmed hitting a young lady with a bullet magazine was also dismissed by the SLP.

According to the head of CDIID, the action by Abubakar Bangura was considered as a gross violation of human rights.

After thorough investigations he was found guilty of violating the police disciplinary code and was dismissed from the SLP.
