The Regional Media Officer of the Sierra Leone Police in the Southern Region, Inspector Mohamed Bobson Senu has said that the five hard core criminals including an alleged international drugs dealer arrested at a ghetto in Bo last week have been charged to court.
The five alleged criminals are Didi Michael, Abu Bakarr Marrah, Alie Gbla, Prince Tawa and Mohamed Yayah, who were also arrested with a large quantity of drugs suspected to be marijuana, Kush, one short Gun and one double barrel gun.
A-Z Newspaper learnt that a local gun manufacturer along Matru road in Bo, Mohamed Kanu is among those arrested and have been charged to court.
According to Inspector Senu, the 21st Century policing strategy implemented by the Police regional commander in the South, AIG Aiah Edward Samadia is yielding dividend and encouraged the people to give the police the relevant information leading to the arrest of criminals in the society.
The Head of Community Relations Department of the Sierra Leone Police in the Southern Region, ASP Ibrahim Sourie Kamara said that they have revived the community Safety volunteers to aid the police in curbing crime in their respective communities.
ASP Kamara said that they have started engaging them in order to help the police within the ambit of the law as the police cannot be found everywhere.
The Bo District Secretary General of the Civil Society, Momoh Kamara commended the police for the arrest of the criminals in Bo and encouraged the community to continue to work with the Police to give them tip off about the location of criminals or any suspicious activities with the element crime to be reported to the Police without delay.
Momoh Kamara said that they will continue to work with the police with the sensitization in the community of community policing to be robust to track down criminals in their environment.
“The police cannot be very where because of their low numerical strength but with the help of the community, it will make their work easier by providing the relevant information to the police”, Momoh Kamara said.
“Already some of the chiefdom headquarter towns are enjoying from the mini grid project provided by government under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio and the stewardship of Alhaji Kanja Sesay as Energy Minister,” he confirmed.
