The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs who doubles as the Publicity Secretary of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), Lahai Lawrence Lima has allayed the fears of members of the public that there is security alertness in the country. He said there is nothing to worry about as far as security is concerned.
His assurance comes in the wake of the discovery of a good number of guns and cartridges, impounded by security forces at the port and the Guinea and huge quantity of military uniforms discovered in a house in Freetown
Lima assured that the government will continue to be on top of the situation no matter what threat might come from anywhere.
He said government is taking the appropriate steps to ensure that these early warning signs of mischief are tackled for the good of the nation.
Lima emphasized that the alertness of government must not be construed as witch-hunting or targeting opposition politicians. He pointed out that it is about creating a peaceable and the enabling environment for peace to thrive in Mama Sierra Leone.
He said they are focusing on equipping checkpoints at the border areas so that illegal substances do not enter the country noting that these substances especially drugs and weapons have the propensity to disturb the peace of the country.
He expressed the need for members of the public to support the security forces so that the country will continue to enjoy peace and development.
According to him, about 80% of what the SLPP promised in its manifesto have been delivered so far.
It could be recalled that a Member of Parliament representing the opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) was arraigned in court together with others for allegedly bringing guns into the country..
