GOVT. FUNDS YOUTH FARMS IN MOYAMBA

Moyamba District Youth Council (MDYC) has embarked on district youth farming in the 14 chiefdoms in the district.

The youth chairman of Moyamba district youth council, James kowie in an interview with A-Z press disclosed that, they have received funds from the ministry of youth affairs for them to establish district youth farms.

He added that, the first funds were put on hold due to desperate outbreak of Covid-19 in the country.

He disclosed that the council is targeting 460 hectares of land in the district, as according to him the council is going to benefit 40 hectares which is 100 acres per chiefdom.

Mr. Bewie disclosed that 50 young people each per chiefdom are presently benefiting from the project as workers, he also emphasize on gender balance in the project.

 He further said they have engaged over 700 young people in the district.

 James kowie district youth chairman for Moyamba appealed to youth and stakeholders to protect the machines and other farming materials that are given to them for the work.

 The Chiefdom Youth chairman for Fakunya, Alfred Bangura when talking to a-z expressed appreciation to the ministry of youth affairs under the leadership of president Bio, for their laudable support towards youths.

He assured everyone one that they will work hard to make sure that the chiefdom produces good crops for the district and called on the youths to take their farming seriously.

Among some of the farming items are Rice, cassava and yam.
