GOV’T Announces Int’l Scholarships For Vocational Trainings, Master’s

On the 16 August 2023 the Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education has in a public notice announced various levels of scholarships from three different countries for suitably qualified Sierra Leoneans to further their studies.

“The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) wishes to inform the general public that the governments of Canada, Australia and Morocco are offering scholarships to suitably qualified Sierra Leoneans who wish to pursue studies in the following courses in Canada, Australia and Morocco for the 2023/2024 academic year,” noted in the public notice.

The various fields of study advised in the scholarships were for Vocational Training, Undergraduate (B.Sc.), Master’s (M.Sc.) and Ph.D. For the Vocational Training, the fields of study included Technical Science, Food and Beverage, Air Conditioner, Life Skills, Refrigeration Technology, Woodwork Technology, Generator, Industrial Welding, Solar Engineering Technology, Clothing and Textile or Fabric and Industrial and Domestic Electricity.

For the Undergraduates Bachelor’s of Science (B.Sc), the fields of study included Medical Option, Energy Studies, Agriculture, Fashion, Hotel and Tourism, Engineering Technology, Psychology, Marketing Studies, Architecture, Performing Arts, Design Studies, Cosmetology Studies, Construction, Aviation and Art Studies.

For the level of Masters (M.Sc.), the fields of study advised in the public notice were Information and Communication, Education, Medical Option, Environmental Studies, Physics, Energy Studies, Agriculture, Health Science, Mining Engineering, Management Studies, Mathematics, Economic Studies Renewable Energy, Petroleum Engineering, Architecture Studies, Engineering Technology, Administration Studies and Psychology.

For the fields of study advised in the highest level which is the Ph.D., were Applied Statistics/Natural, Economic Studies, Environmental Studies, Life Science, Oil and Gas Engineering, Management Studies, Information and Communication Technology, Sustainability Studies, Engineering Technology, Technology Studies, Agriculture, Technical Science and Conservation and Rural.

According to the criteria on the age limits being put out in the public notice by the Ministry, applicants for the Undergraduate Courses must not be more than 23 years of age, for the Postgraduate Master’s Courses must not be more than 35 years of age and for the Ph.D. applicants not more than 40 years of age.

Complete application forms with all supporting documents were also directed to be submitted to Dr. Abu Bakarr or to the Ministry’s website on or before 22 August, 2023. The Ministry affirmed in the notice that applicants with knowledge in writing French and Arabic would be given priority and concluded that only shortlisted candidates would be contacted for interview.
