Top of FormPresident Bio’s administration has demonstrated its support for the families of the deceased service members from the November 26th incident by providing each family with a sum of one hundred million (old Leones). The distribution of funds took place on Friday at the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces headquarters in Freetown.
Major General Dauda Alpha, the substantive commander of the joint force, expressed gratitude for the government’s gesture, emphasizing that it reflects the administration’s commitment and concern for the bereaved families. He deemed the President Bio-led premiership’s response as timely, acknowledging the sorrow and grief experienced by the families of the deceased service members who sacrificed their lives in defense of the nation during the failed coup.
Major General Alpha highlighted that the government’s compassion is manifested through the financial support provided to the families, along with an extension of their stay at various barracks for an additional six months. He attributed the decision to the steadfast and overwhelming dedication demonstrated by the deceased individuals in protecting the nation.
In recognition of the deceased service members’ contributions, Major General Alpha announced that the government intends to enhance the policies of the joint force, with benefits being extended to the families on a flagship basis, irrespective of the rank and file of the deceased.
Major General Alpha emphasized that the families would receive six months of continuous salary payments, along with the privilege of staying in the barracks during this period. He urged all service men and women to maintain professionalism and adhere to regimental values, emphasizing the importance of working collaboratively to achieve common goals.
Aminata Bangura, the widow of one of the deceased service members, spoke on behalf of others, expressing gratitude for the government’s support during this challenging time. However, she appealed to the government to provide scholarship support for their children, as the widows face financial difficulties in providing for their families.
Madam Bangura thanked both the government of Sierra Leone and senior military officers for addressing their needs during this crucial period and called for continued assistance to ensure the education of the deceased service members’ children.
